Sanity Check

In a recent chat with Cam at 4zzz we talked about the current state of the world where many fundamental issues are known about but so little is seemingly done to resolve them. Quite the opposite in fact we seem to have entered a time where bigotry has become emboldened and flagrant lies are put about in an attempt to turn back progress for GOOD.

There was a time when I was led to believe everyone understood the term 'never forget'.

It's not just about never forgetting though, it's never choosing to learn that's the real issue.

Echoing this sentiment in The Guardian, Ladee Hubbard commented 'There’s an official history of how things were – and there's the truth', which also shone a light on an inspired essay by WEB Du Bois that makes you shudder given it was written over 100 years ago:

If we make money the object of man-training, we shall develop money-makers but not necessarily men; if we make technical skill the object of education, we may possess artisans but not, in nature, men. Men we shall have only as we make manhood the object of the work of the schools–intelligence, broad sympathy, knowledge of the world that was and is, and of the relation of men to it–this is the curriculum of that Higher Education which must underlie true life.
